Short Biog: April Maybe May are Rosie Hillman and Matt Kassell. They began their musical career as solo artists and met in 2003 at a songwriters group in their home town of Barrow-In-Furness, Cumbria. In 2005 Rosie and Matt travelled to Crete for the summer, where they played a few gigs in tavernas and began writing their first songs together. The approach was simple: two guitars and two voices, with the emphasis on songwriting above all else.
Reviews Of April Maybe May
…April Maybe May turn in their songs with a natural, crystalline passion. Lyrically bright and seriously happy go lucky with lovelorn undertones it’s marvelous stuff, spliced with potential folk hits. Watch out for “Truth Is” and “Sunshine” from a new series of songs…
Manchester Music Review
“At the heart of things is Rosie Hillman’s breathy, gentle voice, which has been kept right at the front of the mix where it belongs. The band’s soft, warm, occasionally jazz-inflected music floats out of the speakers like meringues on custard. If Radox sold music, it would sound like this.”
Sam Inglis, Sound On Sound Magazine
A blend of soft delicate arrangements and sensitively sung songs… There is plenty to like.
Rosie Hillman provides both a sultry, ice cool vocal style as well as a warm, emotive parade of welcoming melodies, switching between styles and all that lies in between as it suits.
